On entry to the school all pupils are given baseline assessments in Mathematics, Reading and Comprehension.  These outcomes establish their target grade for the end of their academic year.  The target, termed ‘closing the gap’ is derived from baseline assessments, Key Stage 2 data, and data provided by the referring school.

Pupil progress is assessed on an ongoing basis for every subject and pupils receive feedback on a lesson by lesson basis.  All marking assesses achievement and gives guidance on how to progress further.

Every term teachers assess the pupils’ progress against their closing the gap target and using a skills based assessment. Reports are issued to parents 3 times a year, usually at the end of each term.  There are also three parents’ afternoons per year which enables parents to discuss any issues which have arisen from the reports.
